Afternoon with Mayor Mary Sheffield
A select group of our 6th graders had the opportunity to interact with Mayor Mary Sheffield and ask her questions about various topics, such as safety, youth employment, and community resources. These exchanges are a part of the mayor's outreach initiative to engage the community and address the issues raised by both locals and students.
The kids also learned about the role of the mayor and her responsibilities. They had conversations with James Tate, President of the Detroit City Council, and other officials from the mayor's office.
Throughout her term, Mayor Sheffield has demonstrated a strong commitment to openness and collaboration with the community. After meeting with Mayor Sheffield, some of our students were inspired to pursue a career in government.
